Sheer Fashion at Cannes 2011

While sheer is something I don't quite like in lipsticks and nail-polishes, it is an interesting characteristic when it comes to clothing. We have seen quite a few sheer gowns at Cannes 2011 red carpet so far, some of them are nice, some not so nice and one of them is 'I would rather not see'. Let's take a look.

Here's Ms Mallika Sherawat. An embarrassment to probably even spiders!
I know I am being a little insensitive here to have put up that black spider. But then she too was not really sensitive to our aesthetic sense!

Rachel McAdams in Marchesa
She looks pretty in this sheer dress with bright red embellishment.
Overall I like it, but just think that the dress is not doing justice to her upper curves.

 Candice Boucher in Gavin Rajah
The South African model is hot, but did we really want to see so much details including that bum curve?
I don't like that look from the back. If you wanna show those curves then sport a bikini but not a red carpet gown!

Penelope Cruz in Marchesa
I think she looks pretty in this lilac. Who can say she had a baby this year? She can probably still lose a few more pounds but I still like it!

Katy Perry's Royal Nail Art..

I had promised myself that I would not write anything more about the Royal Wedding, but then I came across this picture in the morning and I just couldn't help but share it.

This is how Katy Perry chose to honor the newly-weds.

Katy has been known for her dramatic nail-art for quite some time, here are some pics.

Perry at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards, showing her love for her hubby Russel Brand!

And here's some more. Bizarre is the word these days!

Perry seemed to influence her fans too. Perry on a fan's nail!

Here's my promise again, I will not google Royal Wedding for the next 2 days!

Let's Get to Know Philip Treacy..

With Mr. Treacy making headlines for the whimsical hats he made for the guests at the Royal Wedding (see some here), I wanted to know the answers to 'Who is Philip Treacy?', 'What does he look like', 'What does his collection look like', 'Does he make only hats?' and so on. Of course I have to admit my fashion ignorance here (Come on I do know Manish Malhotra, Ritu Kimar and some more), but I am learning slowly. So I Googled him and here's the summary.

This is what the 44 year old looks like.
He was born in 1967 in a tiny village in Ireland and loved watching weddings as a child. They were like fashion shows to him. In school while all the boys used do wood-cutting and girls were busy with sewing, he wanted to join the sewing gang. Treacy started sewing at the age of 5 using his mother's sewing machine when she would go out to feed the chickens. He made clothes for his sister's dolls.

He later went to a fashion school where he made hats for the dresses he designed 'as a hobby'. He staged his first fashion show in 1993 - All Black Hats, during the London Fashion Week and the rest is here to see.

His Collection
He is primarily known for his hats, but he designs other accessories like clutches as well. The fact that he is so famous naturally means that his collection is pretty bizarre. He has made famous hats for many famous people. We have already seen the Royal Hats. Some other's are..

Camilla Parker on her Wedding Day and Sarah Jessica Parker in Philip Treacy Hats

The New Sun, Lady Gaga in a Philip Treacy Hat with Beyonce
It's also heard that Lady Gaga as bizzare herself as Treacy's hats had applied for an internship with Treacy!

Royal Wedding: Best and Worst Dressed!

With each passing moment, we see newer photographs coming in of the royal wedding, and I can't help commenting about them :) Honestly I was not so excited about this wedding till Friday. But the wacky hats inspired me to write a post and now I am back with another one!

I guess that by now we have seen so many pictures that I actually might not even have too many readers for this post. Nevertheless being a risk analyst by profession, I tend to analyse everything and hence decided to give my result :)
Key Trends
Dressy Frocks,
Pale Colors,
Wacky Hats,
Classy Stiletoes,
Simple Jewelery

Typically, these would cover almost all the royal guests. Isn't it so different from our Big Fat Indian Weddings (they don't even have to be royal :)) where we typically see heavy sarees, bright colors, overbearing jewelery, ornamental sandals. Neverthess, they are absolute fun! Now coming back to the main subject.

The Best

Zara Philips
The grooms cousin looks chic and elegant in her fitted silver Paul Costello outfit and makes a bold statement with her classy Philip Treacy hat, super-long leopard print clutch and Mary Jane heels. Her make-up is simple and elegant. I think she's looking gorgeous!

Lady Frederick Windsor
I think I am biased here because of the awesome hat again. Though she is wearing a rather conservative outfit in the form of a navy blue checked suit, her glowing skin and the interesting hat makes her stand out. She looks royal indeed.

The Only Full Length Picture I saw! We can see the Jimmy Choo shoes here!

Tara Palmer-Tomkinson
The English socialite, television presenter, columnist and model wore cobalt head to toe, with her body hugging Deborah Milner dress matching her Philip Treacy hat, gloves, shoes and clutch.

Joss Stone
I know what she is wearing is not exactly fantastic, but I simply like because it's adding some color to the entire amongst amongst the pale outfit.

The singer goes for a bright red, spring appropriate dress from High Street store Hobbs. She has nicely matched her outfit with  red peep-toes and a red clutch. The ornamental hat brings about the 'sober' color aspect.

Samantha Cameron

Prime Minister David Cameron's wife hit the Abbey in Burberry's aqua ruched short-sleeve dress. She chicly eschewed the fascinator craze, opting instead for a whimsical hairpiece and matching necklace by Erickson Beamon for Erdem. In a nod to High Street, Samantha finished her look with nude sandals from Aldo.

She has been criticized for not wearing a hat as stipulated, but that doesn't stop her from looking gorgeous.

Princess Letizia

The Princess of Spain stepped out in a blush monochrome look. Letizia wore and elegant sheer-and-lace dress with floral embroidery accessorized with matching satin pumps and a netted-feathered hat.

 The Worst

Chelsy Davy
Being Prince Harry's girlfriend people thought she was under pressure to look elegant and royal. But she did not seem to really care. She arrived in a blue Alberta Ferreti skirt, but looked like she had forgotten to set her alarm right and did not have enough time to complete the hairdo

Frances Osborne
The wife of the Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne, wore a rather ordinary and casual grey dress. The not so tidy hair and the funny feather cap did not do any good either.

So who will you vote for hot and not?

Royal Wedding, Royal Hats!

Everyone's going crazy about the royal wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton! Since no fashion blog is complete without covering the wedding of the century, it is highly likely that we would end up looking at the same pictures over and over. However, we may have different stories to tell!

When I was going through the live updates of the wedding in office, along with thoroughly enjoying looking at the lovely dresses the VIP guests were wearing I was also thinking how they could bring about novelty in almost every single thing they were donning including the hats! Let's take a look here.

The Sailor Hat

Right: Guy Ritchi with a Friend in Something Similar but with a Rose

The Bushy and Flowery Hats
Left: The Bushy Hat (House of Commons Speaker John Bercow & Sally Bercow)

The Boat Hats

Left: Tara Palmer-Tomkinson in a Boat Hat
(The English socialite, television presenter, columnist and model was also the face of Walkers Crisps, replacing Victoria Beckham)

Right: Princess Eugenie in a Boat Hat with Princess Beatrice.
Some said it looked like a bird nest..

The Big Bow Hat
Princess Beatrice in a Philip Treacy Hat. The Bow Hat is the Talk of the Critics everywhere!!

The Traditional Hats

My Absolute Favorite..

Mary Chantal of Greece

The Ornamental Hats

So which is your favorite?
