Maybelline Watershine Liquid Diamonds: Swatches, Review and Photos

Maybelline Liquid Diamonds holds a rather special place in my heart because this was my first ever lip gloss!! It was some 5 years back I guess, when I went for lip gloss shopping with a friend. I wanted something nice but reasonably priced and I bought the 'Crystal Amethyst' shade. Actually at that point of time, there were only 2 shades and today there are 15! So you can very well understand this range got very popular and very soon. I loved this gloss and bought it 4 times again! Today I will be talking about another shade though, 'Berry Stars'. Let's read more.

Product Details
Range: Maybelline Watershine Liquid Diamonds
Product Category: Lip Gloss
Shade: Berry Stars
Other Shades: 15 pretty and perky shades available.
Price: Rs 180

As per the Maybelline website these are the reasons Why You’ll Love It

  • Glosses to give you the voluptuous dazzling lips you’ve always wanted
  • Hi-shine liquid format for perfectly supple brilliantly shiny lips
  • Available in 15 glamorous shades

The Color
The color actually is nowhere really close to the color of a 'berry'. It's more of a pinkish peach. Though it is difficult to describe the shade, it's a pretty one!

The Finish
Though the word 'berry' in the name of this shade is rather irrelevant, 'stars' make sense because of the super-shiny and shimmery finish it gives to the lips. In fact I wouldn't really be exaggerating if I call it a 'starry' finish! Yeah, it shimmers a lot, so much that I was hesitant about wearing it to office initially! Now I don't care.

I think it's the most shimmery shade in the entire range.

The Texture and Pigmentation
It has got a nice and creamy, non-sticky texture, along with a mild but pleasant fragrance. It's neither too thick, not too thin. It moisturizes the lips but the moisture obviously disappears when the gloss disappears.
Pigmentation is good too.

The Stay Power
This is a gloss and that too a non-sticky one, hence the lasting power is barely 1-2 hours if you don't eat! I wish it stayed a little longer though.

Application Ease
It comes with an applicator and is very easy to apply. And since the texture is neither thick nor too thin, it is very 'user-friendly'.

Why I love it
Affordable, pretty shades, nice texture

Recommendation
This is a very affordable yet cheerful range of lip glosses. Priced at Rs 180 only, I think it gives great value for money. There is also a nice range of colors to chose from. So I would definitely recommend this range. However, about this particular shade, I like the base color a lot, the pinkish peach. only wish it had a little less shimmer. No complaints about 'Crystal Amethyst' though!

Overall Rating: 4/5

Here are some other colors. BTW, beware of the website, the actual colors look very very different from what you see in the catalogue! I picked these pictures from the web.

Goodies from Clinique

'Gifts with Purchase' is a phrase that everyone loves! Sadly, though the Indian consumer does not get to experience this as much as those in the US/ UK. And in case you thought I was telling you about an ongoing GWP scheme, then I will unfortunately disappoint you.

This was during my trip to NYC last year. Yes, it's kind of stale news but one I wasn't a blogger back then, two till date I feel very excited about this offer, so just felt like sharing!! Waiting for such initiatives from the bigger brands on a bigger scale here..

The Scheme: It was very simple, just buy Clinique products (anything) worth $ 30 and you get these goodies!
The Goodies: 5 sample size Clinique products along with a Clinique hair-brush, all packed in a cute Cosmetics bag.

Clinique Rinse-Off Make up Solvent (2 Oz.)
Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion  (1 Oz.)
Clinique Moisture Surge Extended Thirst Relief ( (0.5 Oz.)
Clinique High Impact Mascara  (0.14 Oz.)
Clinique Lip Color & Gloss Duo
Clinique Hair Brush
Cosmetics Bag

I was absolutely thrilled about the offer and picked up 2 lipsticks and collected my goodies bag. I will briefly talk about each of these products. In case you're interested in a detailed review, do let me know..I will be glad to do that! Here's what I bought.

Clinique High Impact Lipstick 'Go Fig', reviewed here.
Clinque Different Lipstick 'Shy', to be reviewed soon.

Let's start with the hair brush and the cosmetics bag. There's actually nothing to review here. All I can say is that this brush-cum-mirror has become one of my can't-do-without belongings..I carry it everywhere. And the cosmetics bag is the perfect size for travel!

GWP samples are the best way to test a product on you before you pay a hefty price and then realize it does not even suit you! It works for the company as well when they want to popularize a new product!

Brief Review: Clinique Rinse-Off Eye Make up Solvent
I will do a detailed review sometime. This was a great product for me since I do a little bit of eye makeup everyday (read eye-liners).
I love the fact that it is oil-free. So no stickiness, no eye irritation either.
It does a good job, but it's very expensive (Rs 1025 for 125ml) for a make-up remover if you actually want to buy one! Glad that I got it as a GWP!
Plus it is not able to remove the color of my stubborn lakme eye pencil!
Will I buy it: No because of the cost!

Brief Review: Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion
It absorbs very well into the skin and is not heavy.
It does make the skin soft.
Has a very very mild but slightly synthetic smell.
Will I buy it: I am not the kind to spend a fortune on lotions really, so not unless it's inexpensive.

Brief Review: Clinique Moisture Surge Extended Thirst Relief
This claims to keep the skin moisturised for 12 hours! I liked it for the fact that it was very very light and was still able to keep the skin hydrated. You just wouldn't feel you put anything on your face.
Will I buy it: May be yes...

Brief Review: Clinique High Impact Mascara
I love this one, haven't found out the price, but it does have a good impact. Will show some demo also someday.
Will I buy it: May be yes...

Brief Review: Clinique Lip Color & Gloss Duo

Now, I have not actually used this and planning to give it away when I have 200 followers! But I have used Clinique lipstick and it is by far the best I have liked!
The duo consists of

  • Long Last gloss wear SPF 15 (Fireberry)
  • Different Lipstick (Raspberry Glace)

From what I can tell from the swatches, it's a very very pretty color and the gloss is a bit sticky which gives me an asurance that it will stay for quite sometime. The SPF 15 is an added advantage. Though, the different lipstick does not stay on for very long, I think the combination of fireberry and raspberry will be quite firy and stay on reasonably long!
Will I buy it: Yes, I will never say no to Clinique lip products...

Here are the technical details, not very legible though.

Have you got such a nicely packaged GWP yet? How was the exerience?

MAC Clear Lipglass: Review and Photos

I have a thing for glossy lips and I wanted to buy a clear gloss that can be worn over any color to give that gorgeous finish! So I bought the MAC Clear Lipglass lipgloss.

Product Description
"A unique lip gloss that can create a high gloss, glass-like finish or a subtle sheen. Designed to be worn on its own, over Lip Pencil or Lipstick, Clear Lipglass is the perfect product for creating shine that lasts. Clear

Lipglass can be mixed with other products, like Pigments, and can be applied anywhere on the body except for the eye area to create interesting effects."

How to use it
Use it with a lip brush (does not come along with the gloss) or apply directly (like a lip balm) over lip pencil or lipstick.

Price: $ 17.5 for 15 ml / 0.5 US oz in US

What I like about MAC Clear Lipglass
  • It does exactly as it claims: Creates a ravishing glass-like finish that would stay unless you eat too much.
  • It contains Jojoba Oil to help soften and condition the lips. I did feel it!
  • You only need a tiny bead of this highly concentrated product to cover the entire lip area and one tube can last for a very very long time.
  • Fragrance free! Yes I like this aspect..I am not a fan of fruity lip balms/ glosses but I can live with them. But this is what I prefer.
What I don't quite like about MAC Clear Lipglass
  • It's thick and sticky. You can't kiss with with the gloss on :( But I am still okay with it since it stays long probably because of this!
  • I find it a bit difficult to apply directly like a balm, generally too much of it comes out. I wish it came with a applicator.
  • The tube leaked a bit. I thought it was my bad luck. But later I read some reviews on the net and it is a common problem.
Recommendation:
I initially bought it with the thought of wearing it everyday. However, the inconvenience to apply it and the stickiness did not allow that. But I love finish and the shine that it gives to my lips and use it for special occasions. The product is worth a try and its perfect for professional use!
