Zara has an Interesting Shoe Collection

Can you believe it, I go to the Select City Mall every weekend but today was the first time I entered the Zara store! Don't ask me why, because I am wondering myself! It was a Friday and the bosses were away, so I left office a little early. Dropped in the mall for some work which was over in the first 10 minutes. But then there was no point going home so early on a Friday evening. So I made the most of this opportunity of my being alone, by window shopping without feeling the guilt of making someone else wait!

Anyway coming to Zara, the store's pretty huge and very nicely set up and color coordinated. Besides clothes, they also have a huge collection of shoes comprising low heels, wide heels, stilettos, ballerina and some flats. I liked them and so decided to write about the two pairs that I thought were the most interesting (not necessarily the ones that I loved)!! Well, I think you need to have 'something' to be able to carry those shoes (both in terms of comfort and style). I know I can't (heels or price, both are pretty high). Nevertheless, I want to write about them. And do tell me what you think.

WIDE-HEELED SATIN SANDAL

I don't these tooo much because they have the same old basic design, but as I said, found them interesting!!

Something that I really liked about Zara

I took some pictures in the store but they did not come out well since I clicked them in a hurry. When I came back home and looked at them, I was rather disappointed since I could not have written this post without the pictures. So I checked their website and was glad to see that they had it updated unlike most other brands in India. I did not see all the store shoes on the site but most of them were there.

So you can easily browse the site and decide on what you want to buy sitting at home with your hubby, and then just to the store to check the fit and the size. Trust me, it will be much quicker and hubby will be much happier :)

World Cup Fever, Cricket Fashion

Cricket is an amazing phenomenon that unites India! If you happen see a huge crowd outside the TV shop around the corner, it's got to be India playing a cricket match. Be it a scorching hot day in Delhi or a damp and rainy one in Kolkata, nothing can dampen the spirit of the fans.

The crowd forgets everything else and screams in unison when Sachin hits a six, be it in the the stadium or the office cafeteria or the local groceries shop with a TV or the hostel common room or outside a restaurant in a premium mall or may be even your own drawing room. I am myself a great fan of the game!! And so I thought of dedicating this post to all those who love the game and makes the effort to show it as well :)

I really wish I could take some pictures myself, but did not get a chance to go to the stadium. So putting up some stuff from the web that I found interesting! Tell me which one you liked the best!

Where to Shop in Mumbai!

So I am back to keep my promise from here.

My 48 hours in the city were rather busy and I did things that I would usually do in 48 days in Delhi - like going to 15 different places to eat/ shop. But that was exactly what I had on my mind when I sat in my Delhi to Mumbai flight. This is not really a shopping guide for the city because I ate much more than I shopped in the trip. Nevertheless, these were the places I visited and here's what I had to say about them.

Linking Road

Shopping in Mumbai is incomplete without some shoe-shopping at Linking Road. Its one long road with numerous shoe stalls selling shoes of various designs, sizes and styles! There are stalls for baby/ kids shoes too :) They mostly sell flat sandals but have an amazing variety in contemporary designs. Some sell shoes with heels as well but it is better to stay away since heels break very easily is what I hear. These sandals will not last for more than 6 months is a guarantee that the shopkeeper himself gives, but I wouldn't expect more from Rs 150.

Alfa Market

If you are in Mumbai and want to buy a gadget, this is the place to go to! This market is known for the unbelievable deals you can get in electronic items - cell phones, camera etc etc. They also sell loads of make up items from good brands that you can't find easily. Then you can get also find a lot of watches, sunglasses etc. It's a 'people's market'!

Phoenix Mall

Half of my weekends are spent in the malls when I am in Delhi. Most of them are the same anyway. Phoenix mall is the largest shopping and entertainment destination in Mumbai. You would find all the major brands of clothing, shoes and make-up along with several eating options. There is a very huge Chroma for electronic items, Landmark for books besides the usual Pantaloons, Big Bazar etc. In short, Phoenix Mall was like the twin sister of my good old Select City Mall, but it had a few things that I have not seen at other places.

The Comedy Store
You can enjoy Live Stand Up Comedy here. They have international comedians performing every week. And if you get too hungry or thirsty laughing, you can pick up some stuff from their bar and cafe.

There was the historic India-England match going on (that ended in a tie) when I had visited the mall. I didn't get inside the cafe, but the 'dholak' beats that were heard inside every time India hit a 4, made me feel the place would be quite interesting.

Van Heusen Woman Summer Collection 2011, Sneak Peek

 My mall visit is generally incomplete without a quick round of the Van Heusen Woman store. Most of the times I walk into this store with the intention to just 'check out' some new stuff but end up owning a few of them!! Having seen me walk into the store pretty often, the staff is kind of familiar with me and I must confess they are to be 'blamed' to some extent for changing my 'just check out' intention to 'I think I will buy this' decision.

So this is what is new. The sale is over and Van Heusen Woman is here with their new collection for this season.This is not a full fledged review with rating but these are the notable trends.

• They have come out a new range in both casual as well as formal wear including dresses.
• Lots of Blue: Blue seems to be their favorite color. But I certainly won't complain since it's one of my favorites too and it is the color of the season starting from Bollywood to Hollywood. Be it the casual tops or the formal dresses, you will find a lot of stuff in various shades of blue.
• New Satin Stuff: They did have some satin stuff earlier but this time I saw quite a few new ones in both dresses as well as formal tops. What I really liked was the nice and bright patterns. They are good for office or even for an evening wear. My only concern is, being made of polyester, would they be comfortable for the uncomfortable scorching summer!
• Coming Soon: The 'Sport' Range: I saw that they have 'Sport' written on their packing bags. So, they would soon be coming out with a brand new 'Sport' range! That's cool although I have a feeling their formal wear would still remain the USP. We'll have to wait and watch!
• Some Old Things Retained: Besides the new ones, they still have some of their old popular items like some dresses and skirts.

Fruit or Soap, You Can't Tell!

We all know about fruity soaps - soaps with fruity ingredients and scents. There are many of those kind. But this was the first time I saw that soaps could get this fruity!

Confused? These are actually hand-made soaps available at the Select City Mall, Delhi.

I am not sure if the concept is new, but I had never seen such 'original' stuff. Infact, when I bumped into the shop, the first thing that came to my mind was 'Why the hell have they set up a fruit shop inside a mall!'. Later I realised, they were fruits actually!!

BTW, these guys have come all the way from Turkey and this is their first venture!

• Be it the shape, size or color, they resemble the original fruit very closely.
• Almost all 'fruits' are available, water-melon, grapes, banana, orange, strawberry and many others whose names I don't even know!!
• Different 'fruits' have different fragrances, mostly fruity.
• The way they have assorted the 'fruits' in the basket is amazing. They look like a real fruit basket!

Price: The small ones are Rs 100 (eg strawberry). The bigger ones are for Rs 150 (eg. watermelon).
You can buy individual pieces or an assorted basket.

An assorted basket would cost something like Rs 1000 - Rs 1500.
That may sound a bit expensive, but then handmade soaps are never cheap and are generally very very refreshing. I think they make an exciting gift!

Availability: I have not seen them anywhere other than the 'Frutti Soapy Garden' at the 'Select City Mall', Saket, Delhi. But I am sure they have a few outlets too. I will find out and put it up!

Purple Passion

Today was my purple day! Bought a couple of things to mark the coming of the weekend, and all of them coincidentally turned out to be purple! Well, not exactly coincidentally, but had been looking for a purple eye pencil and a purple shoe for a while. Luckily found some stuff today!!

I put in quite some effort into these photographs, but somehow they did not come out as I would have wanted them to! Nevertheless, putting them up here.
